African Drum Festival has kicked off featuring 20 states, of which 40 African countries, Haiti, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago also participating.
This is the third edition of the festival which started in Abeokuta,Ogun state South West Nigeria on Thursday.
The drum festival started in 2016 solely as a Nigerian affair which is an annual event organised by the Ogun government.
Muhammed, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the ceremony said that,
The drum festival keys into the objective of turning the creative industry into a thriving industry, one that provides jobs and promotes the economy.
However the participation of other non African countries started in 2017 when the event was expanded.
The Nobel Laurette, Prof. Wole Soyinka, who is the consultant to the Ogun government on the festival, is expected to lead legends in a ” Drum Walk” from Kuto to the Olumo rock in Abeokuta.
