Bayelsa Minister Burst Up Over Darkness In State

Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has decried the darkness in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, describing it as unacceptable.
Lokpobiri, who is in the state to inspect some ongoing roads construction and commission some solar-powered water projects in rural communities in Sagbama and Ekeremor local government areas, expressed displeasure at the darkness in Yenagoa.
He criticised the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led government in the state for receiving trillions of naira as allocation, and still unable to light up the state capital.
“Look, in this state controlled by PDP, they have done nothing. What Dickson has got is more than N1.3 trillion from the Federal Government, in about seven years, excluding local government allocations and loans. Go to Yenagoa, it is the darkest city in the world. In fact, if I had known when we were preparing the scopes of the budget, I would have lit up the entire Yenagoa.
I didn’t know Yenagoa has reached this level of darkness; but, I can assure you by 2019, we will light up the whole of Yenagoa. That will bring a lot more of government presence to the people. You know individuals are not expected to light up the street; that is the work of government, and that is what we are doing,” he said.
