The Lagos State Government has said it is working towards changing the statistics which put the number of Nigerian youths indulging in drug abuse at 40 per cent.
The state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Agboola Dabiri, said this in Alausa, Ikeja, according to a statement on Monday.
Dabiri commended the senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Oluremi Tinubu, for her contributions towards the efforts to stamp out drug abuse from the state.
He said the drug rehabilitation and skill acquisition centre, which Tinubu built in Ajah was a leap for the youth ministry’s campaign against drug abuse in the state.
The commissioner challenged individuals and corporate organisations to emulate Tinubu by joining in the efforts to address the menace of drug abuse in the society.
He said, “I am making a clarion call to Lagosians in particular and Nigerians in general to complement every laudable initiative by the government.
The gesture of Senator Tinubu is no doubt a good one and worthy of emulation by all well-to-do individuals and groups.”
Dabiri said the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation were already taking steps to take ownership of the drug rehabilitation centre built by Tinubu in line with the directive given by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
He added that the two ministries would ensure that the facility become fully operational before May 29, 2019.
