Kwara Poly Planning Protest Over Appointment Of Rector

ANXIETY is brewing on the two campuses of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, over who succeeds outgoing Rector Ma’sud Elelu.
Tenure of Elelu as the rector of the over 40-years-old institution ends in June.
Staff and students of the institution are spoiling for a showdown with the school management and the state government for allegedly surreptitiously planning to appoint an outsider as the next rector of the polytechnic.
The school had on March 25, this year, advertised for the position of rector.
Accordingly, some staff and students of the institution have threatened to embark on a peaceful protest over the outgoing rector’s decision.
The students’ leader, Kayode Rafiu, said the protest would take place tomorrow.
Rafiu said the protest became necessary due to shabby appointment processes for the new rector.
He alleged that Governor AbdulFatai Ahmed had perfected plans to bring in an outsider as the head of the polytechnic, adding that there are many competent lecturers, who were next in line to the outgoing rector.
