People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to restore peace to the North Sast states troubled by Boko Haram insurgency.
Atiku told party supporters at Ramat Square, Maiduguri, Borno State, during the presidential campaign, yesterday that displaced persons will go back to their communities; if he is elected as president.
“We are going to bring peace into North East and Nigeria. Everybody will go to their local governments,” he promised and added that Borno has experienced violence for a long time and that it is time people enjoy peace.
Atiku, who was overwhelmed by the crowd who came to cheer him, said he felt like shedding tears and promised to fight poverty in the region, “create jobs, open schools and hospitals.”
He said the All Progressive Congress (APC) failed to keep the promise it made to the people of the area in 2015; which was, to bring peace into the region and expressed determination to fulfil all his promises to the people in his resion. “We have agreed that it is the turn of the North East to produce the president and you should make this a reality by using your PVC on February 16,” he said.
